Funny sound coming from clutch/gearbox....
I have this funny clicking/winding/rattling sort of sound (I don't know how else to describe it short of recording the actual sound and posting it here) that I'm assuming is coming from the clutch, but could be from the gearbox. It's mainly noticeable in 1st and 2nd, but doesn't happen everytime.
Usually I'll take off and all sounds normal, fine and quiet, but then it gets all harsh and loud as the revs increase. The sound is definately coming from the clutch/gearbox somewhere, and has only sprung up recently.
It also happens when the car is idling in neutral, and I'm not stepping on the clutch pedal. When I step on the clutch, the sound is gone, and all sounds normal.
What could be causing this, and would it be something I can fix myself (I'm still somewhat noobish at all this mechanical stuff, lol)?

Yep - consistant with engine speed. I figured it'd be a bearing, but I have not much knowledge about transmission, so I'd like to find out what can be done about it, and wether I can do it myself (I'd like to)
yes, definitely a bearing failure. I beleive there is a step by step procedure here if you search the archives. Depends on how mechanically inclined you are....
