Default steering wheel play

ok my steering shakes at many at accel and braking. with the car on the ground and the ignition lock unlocked if i turn the steering wheel either way quickly it makes a knocking sound... what would cause this, i replaced the tie rods (inner and outer) and the rack end bushing. i have also replaced the control arm bushings with es poly ones. i think the steering rack is messed, but dont know how to check for sure. also how do i check if i have a bad axel???

did you adjust the steering gearbox?

do the shake test again. see where there is play.

forget that you replaced anything, dont take anything for granted. you shouldnt have play in your steering, no clunking.

another thing to check is the lower steering column ujoint/pinion pinch bolt. ive heard that can come loose and cause play in the steering.

well think about it. if it has a lot of play, like extreme amounts, why would it not affect it at all times. there are other things that can affect it but the extreme cases are usually caused by the ujoint problem
