WHICH MOTOR TO GET??? LMK WHAT YOU THINK...
Here's the decision I have to make... I already have my f-22 yanked, so now that I have the $$$ i'm ready to get the motor, but I want to make sure I make the right decision... what are the differences, pro's/con's of each etc...
Obvoiusly swapping an h22 is the plan but what are the differences?
-I found a complete swap here in cali which makes things easy, but it would be the usdm h22.
-Then there's the JDM h22 which I hear has slightly more hp with slightly higher compression. One drawback I heard is that as I live in cali where smog is in effect, I hear it's now illegal to swap a jdm into anything other that its origional place (i.e. the h22 jdm swap would only be legal in a lude as that was origionally the application in it,) and even if you put a jdm replacement in it's intended application people have less than a 25% chance of it passing through all the hoops they make us jump through just to make it legal, then that doesn't even factor in the fact that even if you get it barred (legal) it's going to be much less likely to pass smog...
-The next option is the newer gen h22 (I think its like 96+) when they switched to the obdII... is that all that is different with the newer year h22? If it is better to go with the newer h22 which is better the jdm or the usdm?
-Lastly is there any chance the h22 isn't the best swap for any reason??? Is it possible there would be a better swap like an h23 or any other motor? I doubt it as everyone wouldn't be swapping an h22 if that was the case.
Anyways please any input would be appreciated, I want to make sure I do the right swap the right way the 1st time...
thanks

Well, it looks like you have the idea of what you want.
I was thinking about a swap, and that would have been a jdm h22 obd2 from a 97 to 2001 prelude type S or something.
But, the F22 does soooo good with a turbocharger with stock internals, that I decided to let go the idea of a swap.

have you looked into a head swap?? you could also do a tsx motor swap or the honda accord type r if you can find the motor...the European type r has stricter limitations emissions than cali does in my opinion.
you're gona have a great time wiring up that oh so wonderfull obd2, ******* atts and all that ****. too much sensors.
anyways, you can get a jdm h22, and tune it to make it smog legal. if you're lucky, the guy at the test place wont know the differnce when looking at the engine. I dont know how emission tests work but getting a jdm engine to be legal is not all that hard via tuning. they usually are very rich, so obviously some leaning out needs to be done.
pos_cd5: stfu, your post didnt help either. at least that guy gave positive, relevant input, unlike you.
also, going turbo doesnt mean you will pass emmissions either, you have to do much more tuning then since a turbo application usually runs on the rich side. but its not impossible at all, i have plenty of friends that live in states that have emmission laws and have passes with their turbo on.
so thats one less thing you have to worry about. just get it tuned correctly.

because i would slap anyone that trys to sell me the atts h22.
more wires and headache and if you plan to achieve high level of power, the drive train have to be swap out.
just get a good ole's h22, don't even both with the sh
but one thing you might want is JDM LSD tranny.
you need to replace the motor with a newer year than the car, in order to pass smog but there's alot of ways around it.
if you are set for h22, get a jdm lsd tranny h22 and do everything to obd1, less hassle down the line
