Default renting a time sert kit?

i've got an LS block with a bad head stud hole...and figure it's cheaper for me to just rent a b-series time sert kit from eg crunkmonster than to buy another block...so, yeah, is this a smart idea? Is this something i can do by myself at home...without having to take the block apart? I've seen 2 write ups and neither person dissasembled....but is this really safe?

that doesnt sound like a good idea IMO...... ive never used them so im not sure how strong they are just doesnt sound right for a head..... if it were me i would just re-drill the block and tap it for a bigger bolt, then drill out the head hole it goes through and just use a bigger size bolt all together

not sure what else to say ive never heard of anyone using one for a head bolt

Its not that hard, and it does work sometimes. I know a few mustang guys that blew out the spark plug threads and used time inserts, they hold sometimes but occasional the they have to take the head off and go with a bigger thread.

well, i want to avoid a larger head stud if possible.....cause, that's just more work than i wanna put into THIS block. i MIGHT go 1/2" on my other block...but i'm not so sure i even wanna mess with it anymore.

Try the time serts, they should work out. Like I said a lot of mustang guys I know run high horse power and they actually blow the plugs right from the head at times, they time sert them and it usually holds pretty well.

time-serts work really good if installed properly.

If installed properly in aluminum, they rock. Stronger than the original threads in some situations.
