Default Car Overheating!!

On friday night I was driving home and i noticed that my thermostat gauge was past the red! I popped the hood and let it cool down....I then went to drop my friend off at his house and my engine bay was smoking...so we stood there for about 15 minutes until my fan turned off and then I went home which is about 5 minutes away..Now Im not a mechanic or anything but I put in radiator coolant in the radiator and the reservor, but it still overheats...what could be the problem? my neighbor said i could have cracked my head, but i am hoping that its just my coolant pipe thing leaking. Anyone have any idea what it could be? I think i will take it in on tuesday to the shop but i am wondering if i can just fix it myself...help!

It's possible it is a bad thermostat or that you have somehow introduced a bubble into the coolant system. You may want to check all your connections and make sure they are tight, replace the thermostat, and then bleed the system.

turn on the heater at full blast, that should help cool down some next time you over heat.

Check your Radiator Cap. If it won't hold pressure your car will overheat.
