turbonetics t3/t4 50 trim, anybody know anything about it?
I bought a t3/t4 Turbonetics turbo a couple days ago. I'm having trouble finding info on it. On the exhaust side its stamped 20358 .63 STG III, which is pretty simple to decode. However, I can't find very much info about the compressor side. It has a couple different numbers stamped on there. It says 30491 E-50, which I've found out means that its a T04E with a 3" inlet and .50 trim wheel. I also found another number, 40114, which I can't find anything for. Lastly, I found the number 42702 on it, which I'm guessing is probably a date code or something. I've found a couple different pages on the net which mention it, and it looks like its ball-bearing. That's about the only thing I know about.
Does anybody know what kind of power can be made with this, or what kind of power band I can expect on a 99 GSR? I appreciate any help

That turbo seems midly sized im no expert but with the trim sizes and A/R id have too say around 400-450whp is what your looking at. That turbo should have descent spooling charactersistics. 4000rpm u should be well into boost.

My bros 96 gsr that he just sold had a non-bb 54 trim, fmu, etc. Spooled 7psi at 4500 iirc, did something like 260whp @7psi, 303whp @10psi. Had a cast downpipe/2.5" exhaust. So yours will spool quick, and still meet your upper power goals with the OEM map sensor.
If its ballbearing, it should spin by hand and not stop for 3-5 seconds. A journal bb turbo usually is 1 second...at least with the ones I've played with.

The 50 "Trim" turbo w/ the Stage III wheel is not a bad combination, but a bit light on the mid to upper powerband. For 250-300 whp, it is very possible, though boost pressures would be in or about the 10 psi range.
