I'm completely lost!! I was driving my hatchback when all of a sudden the tachometer started going crazy. I was going about 50 mph and my tach was bouncing all over the place from 1000RPM to 6000RPM. Then to make matters worse the car shut off on me! I waited a couple of minutes and I started it again. I drove a litttle bit and it started to backfire. Now it won't start at all. HELP PLEASE!

Are you getting spark at the plugs?

check your thermostat ground wire. 4 small gauge black wires crimped to a ring connector. That caused my hatch to have the buckin' tach, random loss of power, surging idle, etc.

Reaplace your/borrow somebody else's distributor. Ignitors are known to cause tach problems. And if your car is cutting off and now not starting, it's a real possibility that your ignitor took a crap on you.
