B16A1 swap problems
Hello,'
I started up my b16A1 engine today for the first time in my Ed9. (D16A9 original engine)
Starter cranked over just fine and it started after a few turns.
After 15-20 secs of running the engine died. (ran just fine without any signs of problems)
now the starter will not crank at all.
The main relay clicks but the starter doesnt respond.
I've checked the voltage on the cable from the ignition and it gives 1 volt. Approx.
From the connection just by the engine bay fusebox the voltage is 7 volts from the ignition and 1 volt to the starter.
So, do i have to change the entire wire? Or does the problem lie elsewere?
any suggestions?

Most likely it's your ignition, you can set up a relay off your ignition to switch power straight from the battery to the starter. Try jumping power from the positive battery post to the starter(where ignition wire plugs into it) it should start.
Could also be some frayed wires or something both those voltages are low, but try what I said.

I've tried jumping it. But still wouldnt crank.
I think the problem might lie within my batteri relocation cable.
I will try mounting the battery up front with the original cables tomorrow.
Any other suggestions will be appreciated.
Cheers

yea check your battery then your starter if your battery is good and the starter still wont crank its probably locked up in that case take a hammer or a hard object and giv it a modest swing to c if it unlocks.
I would say its the main relay.
If it was the battery cables the car would not just die, the battery light would come first off the car would just not die and shut off, unless the cables shorted out which I doubt.
Now a relay will warm up and get hot and after awhile the solder points crack and break, causing the car either just to crank and crank and crank and never catch, or causing the car not even to turn over.

Are you talking about the ignition switch or the ignition as in distributor, I don't think it has anything to do with the distributor area, because that would not prevent the car from cranking. Now the ignition switch is a different story.
But the main relay sometimes will have the same symptoms of a bad ignition switch.

yea i had the same problem with my car, i checked the grounds, turned out i was missing my tranny ground, you should have a ground on your valve cover, your tranny and your thermostat housing also when you installed did you use your original harness or did you use a b16a1 harness.... if you used your b16a1 harness you will need to use your stock harness for the b16a1 and your stock harness have wires on the wrong sides
is the ecu putting any codes out? if not check all ur fuse under dash. one could have blew. if the ecu has no codes than the fuel pump wont work and it wont run. i would check every fuse befor going any farther.
