Default b16 vs b18 noise?

I've had a b18c in my civic for about a year now, has some basic bolt ons and stuff. anyway, a buddy of mine just got a b16 coupe. first time i've ever been in a b16 powered car, i was pretty surprised at how loud the intake note on this thing was. i'm not concerned or anything, but I don't understand why that is, they both rev the same, and i thought they had simular camshaft profiles, not 100% there. but just from a physics standpoint, anybody know why this is?

its the intake that is on the car that makes the sound

It's either that, or:

The B16 and B18C heads are different. What you're most likely hearing is the VTEC. It's a hell of a lot louder on a B16 than on a B18C. I know why, but it would take a bit of typing to explain it. Basically, it's the head design that does it.

the gsr is less noisy on vtec crossover because of the secondary butterflies on the manifold.

Thank you, I suppose. You see, on the GSR head, you really don't hear VTEC engage. What you're hearing is the secondaries engaging after VTEC engages, but by that time you're already in VTEC. The secondaries are for high-rpm power

his car has a cheapo intake on it, i used to have one too, now i have an aem cai and it made no sound difference. and its not the butterflies, because i don't have them, i have a skunk2 manifold. as far as i understand a lot of the intake noise comes from intake manifold design, and resonance from the runners. but like i said i have a skunk2 manifold which is designed after the itr manifold. I just wanna know the physics behind this, you say its the head design, please explain how

I do apologize for this, but I can't find it right now. If you really want it explained, get up with me and I'll find it for you.

for wanting to learn
