yeah snchros can be replaced but it requires dismantling the tranny, and unless you can do it yourself itll cost ya which is why i havent done it yet.

im on my 3rd tranny and 2 of them had 5th gear grinding. All i did was double clutch and it worked fine. Just don't go pass 6000rpm on the tach in 5th gear, else you'll end up with grinding 5th gear all the time. Even double clutch won't even help.

yea, double clutching is easier on the synchros...I do it in the porsche from time to time to keep them happy. On a side note, I thought there was a TSB about the 5th gear shift fork being wrong or the case made wrong or something like that?

AS HAS BEEN COVERED 3 MILLION TIMES

yes, there is a tsb out for the very common prelude problem of an improperly manufactured shift fork that causes a grind into 5th gear

double clutching will save the syncros, but i noticed after doing it for a while, the syncros felt odd when i tried to start shifting normal again....
