Default check engine light

okay so my check engine light is on and i do not know what is wrong with the car, it has an oil leack from the oil cap but i was told that should not make the check engine light go off, the light does not come on directly after turning the car on but usually once in 3th or 4th gear, i think when i rev high, then it stays on till i turn off the car. what can i check to find the problem? car runs fine no odd sounds or bumping as far as i can tell. also my water temp. guage takes a while to get up to temp. and only shows the temp. is up when im reving around 3 or higher, is this just a prob. with the guage or is my temp. actually messed up somehow?

see how many times the light on the ecu blinks long blinks=10 short=1 add them up and thats the code...ecu is located under the carpet on the passenger foot well...kinda seems like what my car did when I had a bad O2 about only coming on at higher speeds and rpms or after driving for a bit... i don't know about the other problems

1st you gotta pull back the carpet to expose the ecu..(Notice the little light in the middle of the ecu..)

then you turn the key to the on position,,then look at the light on the ecu,,(its a red light) ,,then to determine the code(s) count the blinks....1 fast blink= 1...1 long blink=10....so for example if you have 3 short blinks that = code 3...or if you have 1 long blink and 5 short blinks that= code 15...you understand?....then once you have determined the code, look here for troubleshooting..https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=468260

CRX Repair Manual worth it's weight in gold my friend... you should pick one up, or at least download it to your computer.

That is from a 94-01 Integra.

You might have to check again, it shouldn't blink 17 quick times.

The speedomter not working will cause a CEL. Make sure the cable is plugged into the gauge cluster and the transmission.

either i cant count, or mine does 16 quick blinks, but my VSS is not hooekd up, and i get the CEL for 16 quick blinks, and i know nothing is wrong with anything else. 1990 crx dx stock motor, just a 97 teg cluster swap. i did not get a long blnk at all

Remember that it can throw code 3 and 4, making it look like it's 7 quick blinks to the new guy. Make sure you count in the pauses in between the codes. I was throwing 4 codes at one point after my swap, the thing still ran fine and drove like a dream. I was throwing O2, wasn't connected, fuel injector, somehow resolved itself, electric overload, no clue nor do I care haha, and VSS, mine has a busted cable in it and I'm too lazy to take it out and fix it.

Make sure your speed works. Everything essential to the cars optimum operation must work for it not to throw a code, everything else it could care less haha.
