When installing timing belt what can hold the cams from moving?
When installing timing belt what can hold the cams from moving? WHen i installed a timing belt last night after countless hours of tryin to get the belt to fit i finally did and the cam gears r off by three teeth. Is there something i can wedge between the two of them that wont damage them so i can keep them from moving?
I'm not sure about other honda engines, but on a GSR, there is a hole in each of the aluminum cross-bars that connect from cam tower to cam tower. On the factory cams, there is a hole in the cam and if you put the cams at top dead center, you can put a pin (drill bit) through the aluminum piece and into the cam. This holds the cam at top dead center.
Don't forget to remove the pins once done.

correct, with the valve cover remved, put two hex keys in place on the 1> or the first cam retainer closest to the cam gear. This should help a lot. I used drill bits once, just make sure they are strong enough. Also, check a helms if u have reference to one. It lists the exact size. Good luck.
