ran into problem changing timing belt
I am having problems adjusting my cam gears at their timing marks to install the timing belt. I have a H23 and i'm using aem cam gears. It seems as if i have to have a extra set of hands to hold the gears in place w/ a socket/rachet because of the springs and lobes touching and apllying force to the cams. I also have custom ground cams so my other question w/ stock cams do the cam gears sit aligned to their timing marks? Am i just totally mising something. It says to remove the 5mm pins from behind the cam gears, but i see no way of doing this on the aem's. Please help me!?!?
whenever I have replaced a timing belt on any vtec motor w/stock cams, the cams never turn off the correct timing marks unless unwanted pressure is applied. If they just don't seem to sit by themselves, try using a bolt and nut between the cam gears; you can adjust the bolt and nut till it sits right between the cam gears. As far as doing timing belts on "H" motors, it's a pain in the rear.
Thanks sleepyEK, i thought that the cam gears should sit properly aligned. The extra duration/lift added to my cams must be the reason for the gears being off. I'll try the nut and bolt like you said and see how that goes. What about the 5mm pins that my chilton says to remove? Can anyone help me out on that? thanks.
