Timing Belt Broke AGAIN...
Ok so many of you remember my timing belt broke Jan of 2005 and well it just happend again last night, and the warranty for the work done before is over.... And yes I have Toda spec C cams and they installed a Honda Timing belt, and Yes I told them I wanted to install the Toda timing belt but then they wouldn't of given me a warranty.
And I also know that I was asking for trouble without the toda timing belt, but I read many posts when I was getting the initial repair and many people swore by the honda timing belt and that it was fine.
The car hasn't even been driven much, maybe 8k since the repair last year and I haven't been racing it or anything. It sits in the driveway 5 days a week.
Basically between the first repair and the bran new transmission I am broke and can't afford this literally right now (College means I can't work and I have no money haha_
So should I:
A: Sell the Type R
B: Go waste my time at the dealership and try and get them to pay for it
C: Let the R sit in my driveway chained to the motorhome and wash and wax it every month until September when I should be able to afford to repair it.
I am thinking that if I do decide to repair it.. while the head is off I will send my block out to get built up to 2.0 liters as well. I figure with the head the way its built I should make awesome power with a 2.0 build.

L.A.M.E.
I suppose anyone's decision in a situation like this is relative to how much your willing to spend and how much you are willing to put up with, before your over it.
I'm not going to sit here and tell you exactly what to do. For me I've had nothing but trouble since I first turbo charged the R over a year and a half ago. I suppose I haven't reached my tolerence level yet because I keep plugging away, trying to make the car right.

yea I know what your saying man. I feel like right as I get the car running right with all the **** it has done to it, something always goes wrong.
Even if I baby the car something still has to go wrong like last night, I was driven at 50 mph just cruising, no hard driving or anything and the dam engine just cuts out.. I lose power steering and almost hit a tree.

you're in a sticky situation. only if it were left stock. lol. that is what i told myself ever since i realized i couldn't keep the R. good luck and hopefully you'll figure it out. aren't you on summer break?
yea Im on summer break but I know the repair will be like $2000, had it done before haha...... and right now spending that money isn't a option, nor do I have it currently.

i think that we should get a fund going for him!! he needs his R drivable! lol.. id wait till september to get it done again. find a shop that will give you a warrenty if you put on that toda timing belt. GL man
Honestly, there is no way a dealership it going to warranty that when you are running Toda C's. I'm sorry this happened to you but it's yet another post with someone running Toda C's and a broken timing belt. I was in your shoes two years ago: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=974878
If I had no money and still needed a car, I'd find a cheap *** D series and swap it in. Wait until I had money to fix my B and put it back in.
Good luck

haha good call brad... a D series in the R!! lol I should track it with that in there.
Yea bro it sucks, I think I will probably hold out and keep the R cause I'm practically in love with it. At least I am saving miles on it not having it around to drive.
I will just save up for the repair and either the 2.0 liter build or the SMSP header and PnPed Intake Manifold.

That sucks man. Maybe if you pull off the head and do a lot of the labor yourself you could get it rebuilt pretty cheap. It is a bigger task than people can make it out to be, especially if you've never done it before, ut if you have the time, it may be the way to go. If it needs more work than that you are no worse off.
Good luck

Thanks man... yea I was thinking I might try and take the head off myself, but I would need help from someone in MD that has done it before cause I am good, but not that good lol.
But that wouldn't even be till August most likely. But I was thinking I could save like 500-600 taking it off myself. I would just pay someone to put it back on for me and the new TODA timing belt because I wouldn't have the right tools to put a timing belt back on.
Good luck

Well one thing is that most techs will only adjust the belt to Honda specs. However with bigger cams especially Todas you need to add some tension to the belt cause the spring doesn't always do the job, also if you had any milling done to your head. Did you notice any extra t-belt noise when it got done? If so your belt may have been too loose, which could easily weeken the belt.
Depending on how long it has been past the warranty, (if not too long) I would talk to them.

Damn bro sucks to hear that. Was any damage done to the motor?? how did it break? snap in two, or shear teeth?
anyway as for the bad luck, most of us with more than bolt on parts have been down this sort of road before. it comes with the territory. you live and learn. I wouldnt say its a reason to get rid of the car though. just take some time off from it. if possible, get a ******* for a daily and take the R off the road for awhile until you get things straightened out. dont just to any rash decisions just because you are frustrated right now. happens to just about everyone
Ive come to learn to accept the fact my R has to sit on jackstands for months at a time lol

hahaha yea this is all true. The belt still "looks" ok to someone like our moms who don't know what to look for. I haven't take the cover off all the way to take the belt out.
But I find a tooth laying inside one of the cam gears and its a little slack on top of the cam gears. Also, the teeth that are still there are cracked and the belt looks like ****. and my cams gears are about 30-40 degrees off of each other which means I probably have bent valves. But I have 6 valves bent last time so I am just figuring the worst case scenario until I have a professional look at it.
I am curious to see how bad the belt really is when I get it all out.

could it be a problem with your came gears? does the belt line up nice and straight and in the cam gear teeth?
id be nervous to pull off that cover and see what it looks like. when I blew my motor, I knew it was toast, but was scared to open my hood to check lol. I got a laugh out of it though when I found one of my rods resting peacefully on the header runner lol

haha yea I don't know if I wanna take it all off or not. But I know the T-belt is going to be shredded probably when I get a better look at it.
But I think I have come to grips with the fast that I will be spending alot of money AGAIN repairing this dam caR so hopefully I won't cry to hard when I see how bad the damage is haha
