Is it necessary to change the shift boot in order to use an aftermarket shift **** or can the US shift boot be modified to look good? The JDM boot seems shorter.

 

In my experience, the JDM boot has more rubber, and it'll meet up with an aftermarket ****.

There has been a clip to insert into the top of the USDM boot to clean it up, but I can't remember where to get it (if it can be found new anymore).

I've also modified my USDM boot by dismantling the clip and flipping it upside-down, with the black plastic part moved to the outside and the chrome piece removed completely. Problem with that is that it became way too short for regular shift *****. But, it did work well with the skinny Mugen shift ****, which extends further down than nearly any other ****.

Right now, I've got the JDM boot with a CTR ****, and it looks fine. I think the JDM boot works the best with nearly any aftermarket **** (it's too long if the **** is also long). Sometimes I've wanted to put my OEM leather **** & boot back on, but I can't, because in modifying the USDM boot I've rendered it useless with the stock ****.

 

I keep my shift boot down.
