Difference between Salvage/Clean title as far as insurance is concerned?
What I've heard: Salvage titles don't get full coverage.
What I know about insurance: Absolutely nothing.
I'm in the market to buy a honda and aside from the layers of security I"ll be taking, I want to know in fine detail the difference between a salvage titled Honda and a clean title one.
Also a bit off topic but: Could someone PM Shorbie and tell him/her I'm interested in the hatch but I have no way to contact him/her because I'm in trial mode? (another thing I'm concerned about, how long til trial mode is off? I don't want the car I find to be GONE by the time trial member is off)

a car becomes a salvage when the cost of repairing it (for whatever reason) is greater than, equal to, or damn close to the car's value in pre-accident condition. sometimes you can still get full coverage, sometimes you can't get collision. dial 1-800-progressive and ask.
Here's how it works. The insurance company charges you the same as they would if it was a clean title. But if you total the vehicle, they don't give you **** for it because it's a salvage.
Car insurance companies are just professional rapists (currently fighting with Western Union/AAA and the opposing party was intoxicated w/ a suspended license!!!). God bless capitalism.

What about theft coverage? I'm one of the safest drivers I know, and I've been driving pretty much every day of my life since I was 15 (22 now) never been in an accident that was my fault.
I'm not concerned about totalling the car, just concerned about at least getting half the value of the car if it gets jacked.
Suspendedhatch, are you the guy that does installations here in San Diego?

all i have to say is that when i got hit by an uninsured motorist, progressive had a check in my hand in 10 days. the very next day after the accident, their adjuster was at my work, looking at my car.
Yes, I reluctantly do installations on the side and I'm trying to retire from it but my credit card debt just wont die.
I had uninsured motorist with AAA. An asian tourist hit my car with her uncle's unregistered, uninsured Mustang. AAA called her, she claimed she had insurance, so they dropped the claim and never called me back. They never made any attempt to verify it (I did). I called them a week later asking wtf, they told me I would have to take it up with her insurance company which she doesn't have. Cancelled my policy a few days later and got basic liability.
An intoxicated lady driving her sister's Ranger pulled out in front of me on a blind intersection when I had the right of way. This was October 3rd 2005. I'm still waiting for Western United to get their **** together. I get letters twice a week from them saying that they need to take pictures of the scene and they need to talk to their driver. Their driver refuses to speak to them. She went to jail after the accident and has been back in jail since then.
Oh, and the reason I know about salvage titles is because I used to drive a salvage title Corolla. Crashed it and got nothing for it. It was in nice shape. I never found out why it was a salvage.
I don't make this **** up. I have a few more stories but they aren't as infuriating. I have one good story about Mercury, but that was almost ten years ago when insurance companies were different.
Why do you want to pay insurance on the full value of the car and then only get half? Do you mean you have a high deductible?

I assume you only had liability with AAA. So they will not help you until you prove she didn't have insurance. Should be easy to do call the company who AAA claims she has. Get a letter from the said insurance company saying she was not insured. Send it to your AAA adjuster certified mail w/signiture. If they dont respond file a complaint http://www.insurance.ca.gov/co...x.cfm
Usually pretty good at making sure insurance companies follow the law. Also provide useful advice.

Get a lawyer. They will get you far more then you will yourself.
