Has anyone ever done it? Heard you have to go through a lot of inspections before it becomes clean? If anyone has more info on this, help me out.

I searched and found nothing!

i dont think its possible. never heard of it before.

after the accident of the car with airbags deploy and when the car is fix. it has to go thru chp with all those inspection, then u get ur salvage title.

dont know it can become clean anymore

The thing is my car didn't get into a accident, it was just theft recovered. I heard if your car got into accidents and damaged the frame then you can't change it back to clean title. thanks for the replys guys!

its the same as for theft recovery due to the fact that your car is being replace by other car parts which they keep it as a salvage title.

ive herd of people doing it . there are posts on this forum if you search . but not in CA i believe.

my car was salvaged / junk titled in california .. but it is clean title in california .. but if you do a carfax report .. you can notice that it is a salvaged / junk title .. otherwise on papers .. it is clean.

The only way I know to change a salvage to a clean title is illegal. It involves changing the state the vehicle is titled in.

i had ask the same question to the DMV before.....


they told me if your car had been hit before(ie. with frame damage/ cut and weld 1/2 and 1/2 a car together..SRS deployed) then no it cant be clean title no more...
Ifs its theft recovery then you gotta bring proof where you bought it from, what was missing, reciepts, if airbags been deploy(gotta prove to that SRS didnt pop), gotta bring it to CHP i think, then they gonna run all the VINS see if everything is not stolen blah blah blah....and more lotsa hassle just buy a clean title...or go ask DMV for a better answer

That's the only way I know of unless you got some connections at the DMV

i registered it out of state .. in arizona .. when it was examined and registered there .. it was clean title .. so when i brought it back to california .. to register it .. it was a clean title ..

You should really talk to a CHP officer, i heard of people making a salvage into a clean, even after accidents (to much work if you ask me).

My cousin does that for a living... that basterds rich now He told me that he got a Ca salvage --&gt; Clean once, I dunno how. Havent talked to him in a few months though sorry

Did you tell them you lost the previous title or something? because they would have re-assigned you a Az Salvage title if they saw a california salvage title... and even if it was lost they'd do a vin trace and see it was salvage in cali...

Years back you could do this in a couple states but as far as I know it's all but impossible these days... my last job was at a place that sold salvage title cars... and if there was ANY legal way for them to clean the titles they would've been doing it... they were SHIESTERS... any dime they could have made no matter how crooked they would if they thought they wouldn't go to jail for it.

Well in most cases the only way to do it was an out of state job. I knew a used car dealer who did that. He had us fix the totaled car very cheaply and he sent the car to family in another state to clear up the "salvage" stamp. Ive read in some bodyshop magazines that most if not all states now have a salvage stamp and must use it when necessary. Needless to say the used car dealer now buy's cars that are in better shape.

If you get a lien sale on a car you will get a clean title regardless if it has had a salvaged title against it.

A friend of mine had a body shop and would do it all the time.

sell car out of state, then wait till the new title is received then sell it back into california... only in carfax will it show you have a salvage.

if you buy the car back from a state that does not regulate smog you can even put a different mileage on the car.
