Loose Steering? Lack of Center feel? Bad turn in? GET A GOOD ALIGNMENT!
I got my third alignment tonight at the Acura dealer on their brand new Hunter rack.
I heeded HT's advice and went with -0.08 total toe out in the front and 0.0 in the rear. I am running michelin pilot sports 215/45 16 on 16x7 +45 wheels at stock PSI specs.
I had been dealing with subpar steering feel and response since I swapped out my oem wheels and re010's.
I am happy to report that after my third alignment in a week I am finally approaching the steering feel I used to enjoy so much with the OEM setup. I have to drive it a bit more to full report on the change but the change is significant.
Before going in for the alignment I had +0.08 total toe IN and now total toe is at -0.08. The car's on center feel has returned and the wheel returns to center better. The steering feels more weighted and less floaty. All in all, its amazing how much an alignment can alter steering qualities and feel.
To any of you with after market wheels and tires who feel like they lost that "steering edge" they had with the OEM tires/wheels look in to doing a good alignment. Maybe you have the OEM setup and feel like you lost that sharp steering, max your toe out in the front!
I think next time I am going to dial in a more aggressive toe out setting as suggested on the forum. Those minimum and maximum ranges on the stock aligment specs are really loose, being at one end or the other in those "acceptable" ranges can really influence the steering behavior.
I feel like the OEM re010's definitely had "toe out" characteristics engineering in to their design. Anyone else agree?
Anyone have any experience with slight toe out in the rear?

Aamir
