a buddy of mine took his motor to a machine shop and is kinda wondering if they arent just money hungry or actually correct. He has a h22a1 that originally snapped a timing belt and he picked it up for next to nothing. The machine shop is saying that all 16 valves are bent...there is no way possible that all are bent..or is there? At the most I could see 2 bent depending on what side of the compression stroke it was on. And once the valves hit the pistons it would stop rotating correct me if im wrong. Thanks

 

it really depends on the situation

if it snaped and he kept cranking than its possible but if it just broke and he turned it off right away and didint turn it anymore than its highly unlikley that he bent 16 valves

i know people that broke a belt and cranked it 3 or 4 times and still only bent 4 of them

 

possibility of bending about 8 total.

4 for each cylinder if he cranked it with the timing belt broken and it was sitting on the power stroke and exhaust stroke

im pretty sure all valves could be bent, when i was in school (auto tech school) we had a 1st gen crx it came in w/ all valves bent but those motors only came w/12 valves (so it could be different?)

true but the motor is an h22a with 16 valves. half of the time two pistons are tdc while the other two are at the bottom. i doubt it is likely for all 16 valves to bend unless the machine shop just wants to go ahead and replace them all at once while its out of the car.
