Default Timing a mini-me

I finally got my a6/y8 mini-me running tonight... but only when the dizzy (d16y7 dizzy) is held back beyond the mounts (counter clockwise from where it should be). I tried moving a tooth on the cam gear too, no help. Does anybody have any suggestions? Do the Y8 and Y7 dizzys have the same mounting arms? Also, my timing belt runs really close to the head, is that normal?

Are you running OBD-1?

The d16a6 dizzy bolts up and works fine if using OBD-0.

I'm pretty sure the y7 and y8 dizzy housings are the same and should be interechangeable, are you 100% sure the head is a y8 head and not a z6?

Your cam timing will be off a 1/2 tooth, you should get an adjustable cam gear to make it right.

Is the belt still all the way on the cam gear? if it's on, you should be ok, if it's running off of it and getting closer to the head, something is out of alignment.

I'm running OBD1. The dizzy does bolt up one way, all 3 holes line up, but I can't start it when it's like that. I'm positive it's a Y8 head too, it came directly off a 98 Civic EX. I figure something must be out to get the belt so far over, it's hard to tell if it's rubbing the head, it's leaving about a quarter of an inch of the driver's side of the cam gear exposed. I don't know what would cause this though, I suppose if one of the gears/pulleys wasn't all the way on, but everything is on and tight. Also, I know the Z6 head will be off 1/2 tooth, but the Y8 is supposed to be fine when it's set right.

Just a shot in the dark, but are both of the crank sprocket timing belt guide washers in place and is the concave side of the washers facing away from the belt.

Now I'm going by my 87 CRX, but I would imagine they all have these washers.
