I'm new to the whole Honda scene, (VW owner) but I was looking for a nice fun daily driver that was reliable. Not hating on VW's or anything but they have there problems like most cars and parts can run high(still love the cars to death). I have been thinking about hondas for awhile just cause they are super reliable and get good milage and can be easily modded. I was just wondering a few things about a H22a swap. Now lets say I have a 92-95 civic and I was intrested in putting in a H22a motor with a b16 tranny(from what i hear its easier with the b16 tranny). How straight forward would the swap be, just new mounts and axels and swap ecus? Also if you guys don't mind what are the specs on the H22a motor, HP, Torque, and weight wise vs other motors? Any help will be very much appreciated and I hope to become a honda owner in the near distance future. I come from the Euro world so have no fear of me making my car rice . Thanks agian

Welcome to H-T, I think you would be more than happy with a b18c gsr motor, but if you are going for straight line performance go H22.
http://www.quartersportsdrag.com/ is a place you can find a h2b kit, if I were to go H series I would run a h2b kit, no cutting involved for shifter mounting. Plus you wont have to run the h22 cable shifter.

Ohh, I came over from the v-dub crowd too, my previous car was a 1990 Jetta GLi,( the big bumper car w/ BBS wheels and Recaros from the factory)with a ton of Techtonics and Neuspeed parts

 

whats the real difference between the two, besides displacement and weight? why shouldn't I just go H22? I mean I would get more power and the H22a motor seems to be cheaper than the B18c. Unless you talking about getting a B18c R which would be way out of my means. please comment back

 

I don't have any experience with a H22 motor, some other guys on here might be able to give better info on them. Alot of people argue over weight compared to a B but IMO suspension upgrades can cure understeer.

Less info out there for the swap (aka, less experience as they are less common)
Price of swap is comperable to a B18C5 after everything is said and done (mounts, etc)

 

IMO, the biggest drawback to the H22 is the tranny. gears 1-4 are longer than most b-series motors, and 5th is shorter, not to mention its a cable shift tranny instead of linkage like the B. If you get the H2B tranny adapter, you'll spend about a grand more on the swap, but it'll be noticably faster than with the H tranny (from what i've seen people have cut .3-.4 off their 1/4 et's by switching transmissions).

The swap isn't as hard as people make it out to be, especially if you run a B series tranny. With the B tranny, you don't have to cut a hole for the shift cables to go to the shifter, and you don't have to trim the transmission mount, not to mention that your axles sit at a better angle (a good number of H swap guys have had axle problems with the H tranny).
