Grille Screen Like Austrian-R's?

I need to do something like this grille screen to my track car before I trash a very expensive dissipator.
I cannot recall ever seeing a discussion about this. Any ideas on what to do? What have you guys done?
Get the COATED chicken wire mesh from you local Home Depot. I've done it to a few cars before, but get the coated stuff. Also, be careful during the install not to scratch the car as when you cut the mesh to fit, it will have sharp edges.

Well, after witnessing last night's interesting installation of the trailer hitch, I was sort of afraid to ask.

Be careful not to cut your fingers thru, forget the car getting scratched. Chicken wire will do the trick. If you want to get blingy get a grill craft grill and bring it back to 99'.
George,
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com has a real nice stainless steel wire mesh that might be a little nicer than chicken wire. The have it in a few different weave gaps.

Medium: http://www.pegasusautoracing.c...=3641
Coarse: http://www.pegasusautoracing.c...=3642

When I was into mesh I would get a piece of expanded metal, the smaller kind. It can be found at welding shops for under $20. To avoid scratching the paint I would take small vacuum line, cut it in half and use it as a guard/trim around the grill cut out. Looked good and never harmed the paint. I would use a couple small pieces of wire to hold each corner on. GL

bahaha I had one of those on my Civic back then.
It was quality and fit great. Quite a time warp piece, though.

Forget about not trying to cut your fingers...wear some leather gloves. Simple.
George, also keep in mind the gauge you go with as the thicker the gauge, the harder it is going to be to manipulate and bend if needed along with being harder to cut. That also goes with how small per inch the holes are too. I'd personally go with a lighter gauge and smaller holes as we all know at speed, even small rocks do significant damage.
Make a template out of cardboard first, but my suggestion is to make this piece a few inches larger on all sides than the hole your trying to cover. Then you can overlap the wire around the inside of the bumper and fasten it with some simple clamps and epoxy.

Out of pure curiosity, why?
Wouldn't the direction of the thatch be irrelevant?

imo chicken wire looks like crap, yes, it gets the job done but expanded metal comes in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, Do as Brando says and make a cardboard template, that's all I did and it looked good back in 99/00.
I used plain old aluminum screening. After pulling the shot A/C out its a straight shot to the my Fluidyne and R comps can throw rocks pretty hard
Its hardcore ziptied with the ends folded over to the black parts of the grill. I removed the bumper and took my time to make sure it didnt end up looking like a ricer grill

Big metal cored thingy. Your coolant runs through it and you put it in the airstream to keep the coolant cooling.
It's a lot like a radiator, but with the purpose of dissipating the heat, not radiating it to warm an area.
Oh, yeah:

I'll sell you the first grillcraft prototype for a type R ever made.
It's a bit muddy and has a little bend now. I'll have it off the car in a few days. LMK
