Default Crankpulley bolt loosening

Hey.... this is kinda dumb but its the first time i try to remove this bolt... i was told that to loosen it you turn it to the right... that its a reversed bolt... righty loosy lefty tighty

instead of like the other bolts on the car which are right to tight left to loose....

but i dont see anyone else mentioning this.. i just used an impact gun trying to get this sucker off... but to the right... so i think if i was told wrong than i have just been tightning it.....

can someone shed light on this for me please?

im thinking of using fire... a small torch to heat the bolt to make it expand and shrink and hopefully when i try to loosen it then it will come off.

I used a tool bought at Amazon.com for cheap. You use 2 breaker bars and this $36 crank pulley removal tool.

remove the starter or the flywheel cover plate and jam a screw driver in betweent the flywheel teeth and the webing of the block... then. that will lock the crankshaft in postion... then turn the crankshaft bolt with all your might.

*works like a charm everytime for me.

I always just go to a shop and have them put there biggest impact gun on it and break it loose. Cost me like 10$ last time. Then have them re-torque it to spec and drive it home and take it off yourself, should come off much easier then.

To me 10$ is definitely worth not having to fight with that damn bolt for hours.

I second the motion for using an air impact wrench. If you have to do it by hand, you might try using an air wrench socket on your breaker bar....but get ready to go back to sears for a new breaker bar....I've broken both big *** sockets and breaker bars....nothing lasts forever

Good luck amigo...

Dude, air impact wont work...didn't work for me.

Its easy to get off but requires A LOT of effort.

Step 1: Get an impact 19mm Socket.
Step 2: Put car on Jack stands.
Step 3: Put in 5th gear and hold down the breaks (actually have a buddy do this)
Step 4: Get a LONG pipe on your breaker bar (and I mean long, i used a 12 footer)
Step 5: Start walking the pipe from the very end toward the front of the car. Takes a lot of effort even with a 12 footer but trust me, it'll get that ****** off of there.

I put some towels on my fender so the pipe didn't scratch it up.

HAHAHAH thanks wayne but thats actually exactly what i did!!!! i was walking on the pipe it was the only way i could think of putting more pressure on the wrench cause the pipe was bending....

but then the socket broke... it was a craftsman too....

wow you used 5th gear to do this you know how much stress you just put through your trans????

you used a 10' bar and im guessing at least 100 lbs of initial pressure on it so thats at least 1,000 ft lbs of tq through your crank, clutch, and inputshaft

your also running the risk of breaking the bolt off in the crank rendering your motor useless

just take it to a mechanic and throw him a 20 to break it loose

but the problem is how do i take it... the car has no timming belt at the moment. it doesnt drive.

ive been soaking it in pb blaster since yesterday... right now i was fixing one of my rims cause of the damn potholes in my city.... so im just gona fix it some more put some air on it and hopefully make it to a hardware store to buy some heavy duty 19mm sockets

alright everyone.... I got that mother ****** out!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE but especially to Wayne_Curr for suggesting the impact socket.... the impact socket sure did the job...

So i borrowed this weird crank pulley holding tool which ive been using the whole time. basically its like a bar with teeth at the end and a motorcycle chain around it that you wrap around the crank pulley....

but thats just one way to hold the pulley. it was the only way for me cause i dont really have anyone to help me by pressing the brakes or holding another tool...

anyways i held the crank pulley in place. put the 19mm impact socket on there. grabed the really long tube again and stood on it then i finally herd a pop... i was expecting something bad as usual... the tool breaking or something else breaking... but nope the bolt was free atlast.

now im done for the day. im filthy. hot and tired. and i have a bottle of bicardi to myself... so its time to rest.

well... its a 94.. i own two 94 tegs... but dont get your hopes up cause both of them have really low mileage b20s

my guess is that since the engine was transported here from japan that it probably helped it get stuck some while it was out at sea.
