I am doing a swap and I was planning on taking the tranny off and replacing the clutch while its out of the car. I was just wondering if this can be done with out draining the tranny oil. I would think it does not have to be drained because the clutch is not in oil, but I was just wanting to make sure.

 

If you're removing the tranny, more than likely you'll end up removing the axles. You should probably drain it beforehand.

 

yes the oil does have to be drained out(found out the hard way) when you pull out the axles it will all come out and go everywhere.theres a 1/2 inch drive opening for a 1/2 drive racthit, i think its on the pass. side. the oil is in there for the gears

 

yes. the trans oil must be drained or you're going to get that **** all over you when you pull out your axles. i changed my clutch and flywheel too. let me know how it goes.

 

Not unless you can leave the cv axels in the trans when you pull it.

It's actually a 3/8ths drive ratchet plug for the drain and a 17mm for the check/fill that sits up higher.

When you refill it, unscrew the 17mm check/fill and the VSS sensor on top of the transmission. Pour the fluid into the VSS hole and stop when it comes out the check/fill galley. It should be no more than 2 quarts.

Only thing I would change with this is I'd fill it through the vent on the front of the transmission instead of through the VSS. It should have a little black rubber piece on it. It's much easier to fill it through there than through the VSS, at least for me it was.

 

I have already pulled the axles and the engine, I only lost a little bit of tranny oil, but will it be ok to pull the tranny with the oil thats in it.
