Default 99 EX-V6 air conditioning help

The compressor on my Accord siezed and was replaced. The shop was able to get the A/C to work for a few minutes but then it just blew hot air. Based on what I read it seemed like the expansion valve was clogged. (The A/C would blow out hotter air than the outside temp and it would sometimes work when it wasn't hot out.) The system was evacuated and I replaced the expansion valve and dryer, vacuumed out the system, and recharged it. My A/C is now pretty cold. (The expansion valve it turns out was clogged.)

I have automatic climate control and sometimes when I press the A/C button to turn the A/C off, it doesn't turn off even though it says "A/C off". Sometimes it sounds like the compressor disengages (sometimes the rpms will either dip or rise when I turn the A/C on or off), other times it seems like nothing happens. When the system is totally off (I press the Off button) ice cold air drifts out of the vent.

Can anyone think of a reason why the compressor doesn't appear to be disengaging? Is that part of the automatic climate control that it blows cold air even when the system is supposedly off?

Thanks for any help.

Could be a problem with the control unit. Don't pay attention to a idle speed change rather see if the compressor clutch is engaging. This will tell you if the A/C is staying on.

Ruskimafia, does your compressor engage but you still don't get any cooling? For me it was the expansion valve. It was fairly easy to replace, about 3 hours with the Haynes manual to take everything apart and get it back together.

blueshark, I don't hear the click of the compressor disengaging or engaging while the car is running, but the air is ice cold and after a short trip I'll have a puddle starting to form under the car from condensation off of the evaporater. What should I be looking for as far as the 'control unit.' I replaced one of the relays but didn't notice any change (I'll swap them around next.)

Thanks.

Ok guys, Don't listen for the click rather open your hood and watch your compressor. When you turn your A/C on you can see the compressor clutch engage. (In front of the compressor, Spinning when on, Stationary when off.) The control unit is part of the Climate Control switching section. (On your dash)

If your compessor clutch is not engaging the A/C is not coming on. From the description of your problem I think your A/C on and off at irregular times which is a good indication of a failing control unit. Hope some of this helps you

Did you actually remove the the Control unit from your dash and do the Honda recommended resistance and voltage tests? Don't mean to sound like a ******** but if you can do that, There's not much I can help you with!

If there is to much pressure, There is a switch in the high pressure line,(Discharge), That will also shut your A/C down on Climate Control systems. Have your pressure checked with a set of R134A gauges.

Watch to see what both sides are doing. These cars don't hold alot of refrigerent.(Less than 2 lbs) Low should be between 25 and 32 psi. High will be at 140 to 160 psi. If you have doubts about how much is in there, EPA approved A/C machines will tell you how much refrigerent was removed. If it was 2 lbs or over, It was to much.
