how much hp on stock ls axles?
just wondering what about they should handle cause i destroyed one when i shifted to 3rd at the track and i know i dont have massive hp or torque , any idea?
Ahhh...249 hp..
But really its not about the HP.Its about the hook.600 hp with 175-60-13's the axles will last forever.300 hp with 26' slicks they will have a very short life.

Wouldn't drag radials (BFG KDW's or KDW2's) be sticky enough to snap them? Mine lasted for a long long time at 375whp, and I just snapped my first one. However, the one I snapped I had just replaced with a used DSS Stage 1 axle that I got from the shop's road race car. My guess is that is was already beaten on and near the end of it's life.
As Ryan (TegLove) recently just told me: "If something is going to break, I'd rather have it be a $150 stock axle than a transmission or something." Obviously that makes a ton of sense since axles are fairly cheap and easy/quick to repair.

what is preload?? and i have 15" drag radials.. it hooks up like crazy on the track and street.. but it broke on track shifting into 3rd.
i ran all last season on stock axles with over 600 horsepower on slicks, 1.6x 60 foots. before i used those same axles for over a year on the street, and they are now in my beater daily driver.
its all about how you drive it. nothing lasts forever, eventually somethigns going to break. wheel hop is hte enemy. drag radials are probably teh worst for axles

ive had axles do weird things.U cant put a number on HP that they will break but it seems to happen when they are acheiving ur best 60fts.

Seriously, I knew a guy in NE that would only run stock axles(90-91teg) on his drag crx, and he was making 570+whp, and only broke a axle once in a 2 year period(and this was like 2-3 years ago). It depends on your set-up, if it's shitty, of course somethings going to break.

Why do you say drag radials are the worst? I would like to know

I broke my stock b16a diff on BF Goodrich drag radials so I know you could probably break an axle on them. Plus off the line you're not making 600whp. It's all how you launch the car. You MUST preload and a little slippage of the clutch wouldn't hurt either. There are plenty of guys running in the 10's on stock axles and 600+hp. It's mostly in the driver.
Learn how to preload...
Also if it broke shifting to third that might of been when it let loose not when it acually got the main damage to break it. Tough call just an idea.

If you were replying to me (which I doubt), I actually somehow broke them in 5th gear on the highway at 1/2 throttle at like 5000rpm
...they had to have been bad to begin with cause that just isn't right haha.

Me four. Is it because they allow more wheel hop than slicks but still have some kind of grip?

Ooookk! Where's that other thread where people were telling me I was so wrong for saying the quaife is for traction and that you can put alot of power down without one. They need to see this quote!
