Default some of my welds, comments/suggestions?

I started out on my dads old lincoln arc welder, then me and a friend bought a lincoln mig, and made some stuff with that. but then, I was able to get a thermal arc 185tsw from my job for an alright price, and zero intrest financing. I jumped on that and have had it since like october. keep in mind I was self taught, just looked around this forum, and the hobart welding forum, read up a lot, and asked some questions. so far, Ive made a bunch of charge pipes(white bends) for a few friends cars, down pipes, made 2 ramhorn manifolds, and misc. other items. anyways, heres my latest work.
This is on sch. 40 304l stainless, did 2 passes, one with out filler, and then one with. Im using 1/16th tungsten, and 1/16 filler for most of it along with a gas lens
(dont know what size it is). I was using between 55-70 amps most of the time. overall i think im doin pretty well, but I may be wrong. anyways, on to the pics

and one of me in action(I usually wear the gloves now that Ive got 'em..heh)

I'd be more worried about skin cancer than sunburn.

learn to pay more attention to controling the foot to get welds that look more like a roll of nickles. remember your trying to keep the heat out of the metal. anyone can put tons of heat in. but its the coordination and control of the heat that make for beautiful welds. your on the right track for sure just practice with thin **** for a while and youll get real good. but good job anyway and get a shirt and gloves beach boy.

duuuude, get some long sleeves on and gloves. Your gonna get a hell of a arch burn on ur arms and if you by accident touch that red hot metal... well it isnt good.

Other then protecting yourself, good luck Keep up the good work

thank you for that. 1 constructive comment on the welds, and everythin else about his attire.

he posted pics so the "welders" on here can chime in w/ what they think and give suggestions/comments, not to receive advice on what to wear.

for some more comments/suggestions about the welds

Welds look pretty decent. Consistency, as always, is key. You probably read that ALL over the web but its the honest truth. Looks like you have the heat down, as the color is good, and not all dark grey looking. Looks like in a couple spots you either missed filler, or didnt add enough. Also remember, if you werent doing so already, when you stop to reposition, and start back up, you want to strike your arc right on top of the last dip of filler you added in the previous weld pass, dont start right on the base metal.
Keep it up and youll get the hang of it. GOOD LUCK!

well i had a second look and another way to tell if your control of heat is consistant or getting better is by looking at your heat trail (on either side of the weld) it should remaiin like a line on either side of the bead, as far as width goes. look at your heat trail, it is very randomly narrow and wide. take a look at a heat color chart too to see how hot your getting the metal so that when you do thin stuff and you have to be careful about the amount of your putting into it because it will effect the parts positioning. its just better understand how hot your getting it, and how hot you should get it. well for that matter you should always worry about heat really effecting the parts positioning and the shape and all that crap ya know, regaurdless of the thickness of the metal. anywho just thought id add that.

by the way have you tried aluminum? thats a good teacher for control. cause if ya aint got it its not forgiving at all.
