Just bought a d16y8 swap, will my harness work?
I just bought a D16Y8 full swap. Will my existing harness work? I have a Honda Civic CX Hatchback. If it will work what modifications do i need to do to it? Thanks!!!

I got it from a friend in Wendover for 300, everything minus the ECU

well first we need to know what year your vechile is to answer the question as
a cx from 92-95 wiring is way different than 96-00 cx..that said please look at the
FAQ section that is a sticky at the top of this forum. all the info is there..good luck

Actually if you drive an obd-2 car then just go and pick up a y8 ecu and run the wire for vtec...if you use a p28 (best ecu i think hondas ever put out, imo) you'd have to find a z6 dizzy and then buy a obd-2 to obd-1 jumper harness, thats to expense to do unless you plan on running hondata, crome, uberdata, ect...
so just go and buy the ecu to fit the motor then run the vtec wire to the ecu and convert the iacv from the stock 3 wire plug thats on your motor to the 2 wire plug from the y8 (not hard to do).. im running a z6 head on my y7 block so i converted to obd-1 but if i were you i wouldnt do that unless you drive a EG

Sorry it is a 1997 I knew i forgot something. So all i really need to do is run a vtec wire and thats it. I already have the ECU. are the wires already sticking out the plugs or do i need to make a new connection?

run the vtec wire then change out your 3 wire iacv for the y8's 2 wire, you might want to read BaulyCivic's mini-me thread and soak up as much info as possible, it helped me through it a bit easier when i did my mini-me, only you just have to read the ecu part, he talks about a obd-1 car but fills in the blanks so obd-2 people can follow along...good luck on your car
thanks, now can i do all this on my harness as the harness im using is my Auto harness as i am also doing the auto to manual swap at the same time
it would probably be easier if you found a 96-98 EX manual harness
glad you found a swap though!!! i think i have a 96-98 EX ecu if you need

yeah thats what i was thinkin of getting. I got an ECU already for $35
I think i maybe able to get the harness fromt he same guy. But dammit i want this running by tomorrow night. Will changing my harness be that big of a pain?
Thanks man im glad i found one too i was getting scurred

Make sure the ecu you are getting is a 96-98 p2p and not a 99-00. You can used your stock harness, but you will need to run a wire for the vtec solenoid, vtec oil pressure, knock sensor, and re-wire the iacv connector. If you decide to use a y8 harness you will also have to find a y8 dash harness as well because with a y8 that is where the secondary o2 sensor plug is. Or you can run the o2 connection directly to the ecu somehow or just not plug it in and leave the cel on.

could i wire the 2 o2 sensors together? or is that a bad idea? In your opnion which one would you choose, modify the one i have or just get teh harness from the ex?
If i keep mine on teh rating of 1-10 what is the difficulty of modifications?
