del sol Oil leak on Distributor
On my 93 del sol si, I am having a problem with an oil leak. We thought it was the o ring where the dizzy connects to the head, but when we took off the dizzy we noticed oil inside of it. Anyone know of any problems that the d16's had with oil leaks?
Thanks
Thanks
I bought a used '96 Civic last fall and noticed an oil leak a few months later. I replace the valve cover gasket, then noticed a leak from the solenoid, which I fixed by just unbolting it and wiping everything off around the base of the solenoid. I thought I had everything taken care of, but still noticed oil leaking, which I then tracked to a weep hole on the underside of the distributor assembly.
My guess is that you've got the same problem. I thought it was the O-ring and changed that out, but still the leak. There's a small cover over the weep hole and the fact that it's on the underside of the distibutor made it tricky to track down.
Along with this, let me mention that in the course of working on this problem, I had to get the O-ring from a dealer and was able to ask some questions while I was there. They wanted to charge me $340 for a new distributor, but I've found several for less than half (imagine that.)
The reason I registered for this forum is that I'm trying to get some help on a problem related to the distributor leak. I bought a used dist. today and installed it, but my timing's WAY off. It seems to be the right distributor, though there was some confusion at the salvage dealer. The problem is that when I accelerate, I have almost no power in first gear until I get to about 5Krpms and then everything seems to be off toward the high end.
I haven't been working on cars for too long, but I'm finding forums like this very helpful. I hope this response helps you out and I'd appreciate if anyone can give me some advice, as well.
thnx

you need to set your timing if you didn't when you swap dizzys

Thanks, mate. That's what I figured was going on, but when I got the part from the salvage dealer, one of the guys thought it was for an HX and the other guy was arguing with him, etc. so it put some doubt in my head, as to whether I had the right one.
BTW, what do you figure to be the easiest way to mark TDC? I read something about putting a pencil or something in plug #1, to tell when your're lined up.
Thanks again.

you can do that but you do'nt really need to, you need a timing gun/light and jump the service connector by the ecu then set to 16 or 18

search setting timing or something similar you should be able to find a walk through, i think c-speedracing.com has a walk through

Just went through the same thing on my '93 Del Sol. After replacing O-ring, I discovered I had oil in the distributor cap as well. A new distributor from AutoZone (~$179) solved the problem. Apparantly, there is a seal within the distributor that goes bad.
Good luck,
