93 Civic Del Sol Si - oil dripping from exhaust
I haven't actually seen the oil come out. But I have had two people tell me it looks like I have oil dripping from my exhaust when I'm driving. I check my oil very two days. When I'm driving it smells like burning/hot oil. Even with the windows up and the ac on I can still smell it. I do have an oil leak. I think it's the oil pan gasket. Just had the car swapped from an automatic to a standard. I drive a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol Si. Any idea's? I'm looking for a place to start.

Re: 93 Civic Del Sol Si - oil dripping from exhaust
I have a 93 del sol si auto and I have had several oil leaks fixed. I've had the oil pan gasket leak. I tried to do it myself once and it still leaked. I had it redone by a Honda specialist and he was successful. He said it's not as easy as it seems. The cleaning effort, the exact application of the Honda bond to certain areas without overdoing it and the exact even torquing of the bolts is all important. Doing it on a lift really helps. Removing the exhaust header pipe and reinstalling it can also be a bitch without a lift.
After that it was fine. Several months later I had another oil leak that seemed to be off the tailpipe like yours. I thought the oil pan gasket failed again. I went back to the mechanic put it on the lift. With flashlight in hand I thought maybe the rear main oil seal went bad. Nope. The mechanic looked real careful and saw a little oil stream above the oil filter. After removing the oil filter for a better view he could see the oil pressure sending switch was leaking and the oil stream was travelling to the area above the tail pipe. Replaced the switch with a OEM one after an aftermarket didn't work.
My suggestion is get the car on a lift maybe at a oil change place and have a flashlight and lots of rags. The oil travels and sometimes it's hard to pinpoint the source of the leak.

I can't get pictures of my car while I'm driving. Lol. I don't see anything on the tail pipe when I go look at it. I'll see if I can get some pictures tomorrow. See if my husband will help me with it.

My 93 del sol si is calypso blue. It's stock w/ auto.
I also have a 94 del sol vtec with a LS/vtec conversion with a Type R head.
Totally rebuilt with all new bearings. Red
I've had in the past a 93 si that was converted from auto to stick. The gears seemed long legged. The ECU was converted to get rid of the check engine light. The giveaway was the dashboard cluster with the P R N D etc. Lime Green
I also had a 94 del sol S with auto. Red
To keep this thread technical, playing with different versions of the del sol gives a good understanding of how they work.

Post pictures of the oil leak at engine sites that may inform the source of the leak.

It is possible to post pictures of exhaust smoke, if there is any, with the engine idling or revving in neutral.
