it's obviously had one welded onto it after it was made......or it might just be that somone welded up a slip joint...hard to tell, but, that should tell you that it's weld-able, and that if you bend the pipe and prep the surface...of course you can

 

dont people normally reduce the pipe back down after the megaphone?

 

i heard from the past owner the megaphone can be slipped off. and 2 1/2 inch piping can be slipped on. what should hold the piping to the header itself? welding or a clamp?

yes it can be done. cut off the megaphone and weld on a elbow and then a straight right after it. done

 

actually the thing is the megaphone is a slip on.

 

slip off the mega phone part
chop off the mega phone from the slip
and weld on a straight on to the slip.
