First off i'd llike to start off with, i'm new to the forums, been around for a couple weeks now, absorbing all the information out there for me.

i'm going to get my license at the end of the month and i have been desperately searching for an ek/eg (perferablly ek) i love how they look, sit so low and look so mean but theres still something about it that makes it approachable.


This would be my first time buying a car so i was wondering what are some problems with the ek/eg. what i should look for while i'm test driving it. is there any thing else i would want ot know before i purchased one of these beautiful machines. how much should i be lookingn to spend for a stock eg or a stock ek with a manual transmission

what are some things to look for while i'm test driving/looking at the car.

like i know i have the check the radiator fluid tube check if its stiff or somethingalong those lines, grinding in high rpms/gears. is there anything else i need to know

make sure you buy a good running and looking car instead of buying one that is quick and rusty. You want both {one that runs and one that is not riced out and all to crap}.

 

common sense, make sure the car stops when you hit the brakes, check all the electronics.. horn.. a/c, but you should do that in anycar

make sure clutch can hold on a hill if it's manual..
try and get as many records as you can of maintence.. ball joints etc, last timing belt change, all this stuff will make it easier on you in the long run, so you know when to change what

yeah rust is a big thing. deff test drive the car before negotiating price. Try it B4 u Buy it... Also, MAKE SURE VINS MATCH!!!!!!!

 

if he has the title for it only check it for the one under the windshield (bottom right of the windshield when looking at it from outside, on the dash), just check that VIN #, u dont' have to check all of them if he has a title..

I hear rust on the rear quarters is a big thing for civics, I know I got a lil spot like hte size of a nickel right above the wheel well where the two pieces meet

You really have to see the car, see the mileage, see how it runs, and see the price b4 u start deciding how much it's worth and if it's worth it

And yeah, like that other guy said, u'll want reliable over fast, especially if you're not on a high budget

 

No, check all the vins, underhood firewall, door jams.. dont get ripped off. you see how many get stolen. Its simple to swap and scrape vins. Check it, you wont regret it

 

my cousin bought a eg with a swapped dash vin and it matched the title, but no other vin (meaning firewall and jams) The vin plate is held in wiht rivits. not hard to re-rivit another one in...

 

from my experience. check for any oil leaks inside the engine bay. check if all the wiring is good ( brake lights turn signal lights and etc...) also tap around the body of the car for any bondo spots to see if there was an accident. look for any cut wiring rust spots or if anything is ghetto rigged.

No, if he's got a title for it, an actual legit title that doesn't look like anything was "spilt" on it then I guarantee that all the Vins match up, it's when he starts talking about his wife's uncle's stepson's girlfriend who HAD the title that you have to start worrying and start comparing vins

I'm sur eit's been said like 30x already because it's just like, common knowledge but: just listen for sounds, listen for sound in cornering, listen for sounds when u let off, listen for sounds when you accelerate, feel it, see if it's breaking up at any points, stuff like that...

nah, that's an easy fix

check for wet carpet and evidence of leaks near the heater core on the interior, especially if it has a swap

expletive morons who swap engines and damage the copper inlets without replacing the core

could you guys also just give me a ball park estimate of how much an eg/ek would cost in poor, decent, and good condition?

i'm only looking to purchase a stock car because i really can't afford much less and i'd rather do the work/learn how to do the work on it myself and if something ends up messing up i can only blame myself.

so could you guys give me a ball park estimate please in poor, decent and good condition.

also is an eg with an h22 swap and some other stuff worth 3.8 grand its my friend's, best friend's car so i won't be getting screwed over or anything everybody says it pulls like crazy.

deff check all vins...my title doesnt match the dash but it matches all the other ones so u should check the firewall one mainly...the dash doesnt make the car u can easily change that out...

You don't need a car that pulls like crazy. you need a slow piece of **** so you can learn how to drive. Drive that everywhere for a year. Drive the **** out of it. By driving the **** out of a slow car, you will learn the fundamentals of real driving. After a year or so, you will have mastered it if you drive like that at least once a day for 20-30 minutes. Chances are you're part of the 85% dumbass 16 year olds who get in an accident within 1 year of receiving their DL, and will hit a tree or the back of someone's granny's caddillac and get fucked with insurance and moving violation points. Not to mention the fact that your parent's will be dicks to you, or even worse; spoil you and buy you another brand-new car.

 

Depends on where you live but flooding can be an issue also.

i totally agree with everything you just said...and in my post i said i wanted a stock car because i wanted to learn how to do everything on the car by myself along with money issues

could anybody give me price ranges in poor decent and good condition for an eg/ek?
