How to take care of Surface Rust?
Today i took off my Quarter panel rubber strips and i have surface rust around the Rear quarter panel arch. How do i go about getting rid of all that so that it doesnt spread. Its a little bit strong where the rear bumper meets the quater panel.
well it probably needs to be sanded down to the bare metal and sprayed with a rust inhibitive primer, its gonna be tough to stop it without messing up some of the paint around it

depending on how deep the rust is, it will prolly be a lot easier to use a dremel tool and grinding bit. its easy to do a tight area with that too.
once you get all the rust grinded away then smooth it out a little with a 400 grit or something, then you'll have to use some filler. Once that dries start with about 500 or so and work your way up to around 2000 grit. by then it should be almost polished looking. then do your primer and wet sand that with a 1000ish grit to make it smooth then finish with something around 2000. it might take a couple coats of primer to get it a nice finish. then paint it, wet sand again...clear coat, wet sand, then polish it.
it will take a long time and lots of patience to do this right

well not like it was before. you might occasionally get some light surface rust on the underside of the fender. if that happens, ide just lightly sand the area and touch it up. I think the only way to totally get rid of the rust is to get a new piece welded in. but if its light rust (not through the metal) then the method i described should be fine for awhile. rust sucks!
