Removing Swirl Marks
Is this a good write up?

1. wash your car with some Dawn dishwashing soap one day where you have lots of time. (yeah i know i know, but just listen)
2. dry it off with a soft shammy, dont use that waterblade on paint...it can hold dirt and **** and make more paint swirls
3.clay bar the entire car and dry it off well
4. use 3M or meguairs swirl mark remover on entire car, going over bad spots 2-3 times and make sure you take it all off with a soft 100% clean cotton towel
5. use some polish of your choice (i prefer 3M hand glaze or Klasse Sealant glaze)...do 2 coats of this
6. (optional) do a coat of your choice of caranuba wax (i use Blitz One Grand)to add some extra depth and protection to the paint
7. (required) do a coat of your choice of synthetic wax (i use 3M stuff, again) to seal it all in and add good paint protection and make water bead up like mad and make all the girlies get wet when they see how shiny your blinging paint will be etc etc.
to keep your finish nice between polishes and after washes use some Meguairs Quik Detailer, its the shiznit and makes things all nice nice and rids of any light water spots you get after drying your car.
Do this and you will crap yourself after seeing your swirl marks go away and also how good your finish looks, make sure to use clean towels for each thing and also use a towel for applying the stuff if you dont have a buffer, i hate those foam applicator things for anything other than paste wax. Buff on but dont buff off if you have a buffer, this will reduce the amount of swirls...i always remove wax or polish or whatnot by hand. I go over it with a buffer later with a different cover just to shine it up a bit, but only after all the stuff is removed.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yes it is very detailed. You don't need to got to quite that extent, but the reason he said to use dawn is that it is a mild detergent. It will remove a thin layer of oxidation of the surface, leaving a fresh new surafce to work with. You could then use the cleaner/swirl polish, then wax.
If you can't afford the mentioned products (3M can get expensive) Meguairs will work fine.

I've already clayed my car about a month or less ago. Should I just wash my car with normal car wash soap or should I use the dawn stuff? Also is the 3m product I posted above good to use? I used it for my headlights when I refinished them after I wetsanded them.

NO NO NO, do not use the rubbing compound. It will take off to much of the clear coat for you to rescue. Just use the Meguairs products.
Do you have an orbital buffer. If you use this to apply the wax/polish the affect is even greater.

A friend has one but it's pretty shitty I think...I guess I'll go pick up the Meguairs swirl remover then

Re: (suxway)
One should never, ever WASH a car with dishwashing liquid. Dawn or any other like dishwashing liquid should only be used to lightly bathe down the surface car AFTER the car has been washed with a bonafide car wash soap in order to take off the wax.
