how do i hook up this new cd player... WTF
hey guys my cd player stopped working and i got tired of the radio, so i bought a new one, VERY basic, dosent even have preset stations.. the back of it has 2 rca's which i dont need, an antenna and a group of wires...
the group of wires consists of
black--ground
red-- 12 volt
blue--power antenna/remote i think
gray--left speaker
blue-- right speaker
i have the harness for the car 89 civic, and any other cd player ive had, had a plug that went into the back of it, and i just connected that plugs wires to my cars connector wires.... the last one had like purple +- green +- gray +- etc...
anyway usually i plug/solder/play
but since there is no plug on this one, and HALF the amount of wires im clueless
here are pics!
this is the connector that goes to my car harness

this is the old cd player, and what i am used to....

this is the new one, no plugs wires str8 into the backand only 5 at that... WTF?

i get power all day long, but no sound
btw i only have 2 rear speakers, but they are factory wired str8 into the stock harness fyi

The manual should tell you what wires do what. then you can connect accordingly. What kind of head unit is the new one? There should be a proper harness made for that as well but you can use the one you have

Try this, connect the adapter harness red to the new HUs red lead, and adapters black and green/black and violet/black together and connect the new HUs ground to them, [common ground] then connect the new HUs gray to the adapter harness viole lead and the new HUs blue to the adapter harness green lead, don't forget to cap off the adapter harnesses yellow and orange leads constant power and illumination, [not needed for your new HU]

basic or not, im getting nowhere, ive wired all my systems/sterios and its always been plug and play or color coated...
ive wired the harness color by color to the wires on the HU, nothing....
then i, connected black harness to black HU, then red harness to red HU, then blue harness to blue HU... then i cut the radio on, had power and everything, and i took the other 2 WIRES that are the " LEFT speaker, gray" and "RIGHT speaker purple" and touched them on every wire that wasnt hooked up, the violet, yellow, orange, gray, white, green
nothing...

Holy ****, throw that crap in the trash. If you want a HU, drop by my work and I'll give you an old yet legitimate stereo that someone is replacing. I got stacks of old Sony xplod's, even Alpines where maybe the lights don't come on or something but it's still better than that.
Man, go to the junkyard and get a factory stereo. I realize that not everyone has $100 to spend on a half decent cd player, but even if you got that thing for free, it isn't worth installing. Get a portable CD player with some headphones.
Rant over. I'm just teasing you.

So I understand you connected the "black harnesses to black HU" do you mean that you connected the adapter harnesses violet/black, [RR sp. neg. (-)] and the green/black, [LR sp. neg. (-)] and the black, [electrical ground] together and connected all 3 of them to the HUs black, [HU ground], if so, that is correct, because you only have rear speakers, you do not need the adapter harnesses front speaker leads, [white/black and white LF sp. or gray/black and gray RF sp.] you have the HUs power, [red] and ground, [black] connected to the harness properly, [HU turns on, "had power and everything"]
The 3 leads left over on the HU are Blue, [power ant. and/or amp control output lead] and the gray and violet, (purple) they are the left and right speaker positives, they should be connected to the violet, [RR sp. pos. (+)] and the green, [LR sp. pos. (+)] on the adapter harness, that would be the correct way to wire that common ground HU.
However you also said that you tried the gray and purple, ["i took the other 2 WIRES"] and you touched them to all the left over wires on the harness, including the yellow,
the yellow is a constant 12V+ line, doing so would probably blow the outputs on that HU.
You may have to take suspendedHatch's advice and find yourself something else.

I'm guessing you got a Phase Linear mp3 deck, model PMP180UCS.
