Default Threading Shifter for ****

Kid before me installed a short shifter, and also cut it down. He had a **** just tightly placed on this.^ Now I need to rethread it for a ****. Has anyone done this? I know theres a tool that can do it but can I do it in the car? Is it difficult?

a new shifter is like fifty bucks. but the easiest way is to use a tap and dye set. after that you just need to make sure that the set you get has a size that large. Now I'm not sure but you could probably get a better shifter, like a GSR shifter brand new from honda for like $75. And used you should be able to get something for like $20. If you know someone who has the tap it's free, but those tap and dye kits are expensive. probably about the same price as the shifter. The only way you can usually buy single sizes is maybe through a mack tools truck or something like that. If you're using the home depot method, good luck finding your size and on top of that, good luck buying just that size.

looks like its gonna be a pain in the *** due to how thick it is there, no ***** are going to have a thread that size. and i think grinding it down will be a even bigger pain in the ***. i'd just buy a new short throw.

simple ... you have 2 choices. 1 buy the correct female tap and just thread it .... probally 10bucks...this will not work if the shaft is tapered...... or 2 just wrap the shaft in electrical tape to the right size and tap on the **** with a rubber mallet. it will be fine cause i had a car that i drove for like 2 years and went to change the **** and it was cheesed on like that but it never moved it was friggin on there. and thats free and will take 2 min

I used a female tap, and some oil, threaded pretty smoothly, it wasn't too tapered to stop it from working like 3s0n3 said.

ITR "style" ****.

Good Job. By the way its not called a female tap its a die. Or to be more specific a "thread cutting die."

thanks, looks alot better than the red and "cf" **** that was on there from previous owner, most of the painted red interior is almost gone . And I swear this thing will be off jack stands soon, it has been too long, wayy too long.

Nice job....how much shorter is it now? If you find its too short or dont like it, I have a 91 civic here in a junkyard with a good shifter...they'll prolly only want like a dollar for it, if that helps any?

My shifter is fine now, thanks. The threading didn't make it any shorter.
