Release bearing spring....
Does anyone have a good picture of how the release bearing spring goes in to place. I took it out because it broke and now I can't figure out exactly how the new one goes in.
Any thoughts on what would have caused it to break? I put the trans back together after my clutch replacement/flywheel resurface, and it snapped the first time I pushed the clutch down?!? There shouldn't have been any more stress on it than before unless its because the bearing has to move out farther to hit the fingers on the pressure plate (because the clutch is new they are almost flat.

sorry i dont have a picture of it..but i hope this would help. look into http://www.quickhonda.net under the category "the garage and clutch replacement" there should be a picture of the spring inplace with the throw out bearing. i cant upload the picture because its copyrighted.
Hey therealciviczc,
How exactly was the spring Broke? Do you know what could have caused it to break? How much and where did you get the new spring??
You see, I too am having the identical problem, I just swapped a b18 into my rex and replaced the clutch while I was at it. Now I have to no clutch pressure(pedal goes to floor with ZERO resistance), and I can pull the "lever" all the way up by hand with ease.

DAMMIT! So I guess I'll be ripping out the tranny to fix that spring this weekend, this sucks! Do I have toi get that spring through Honda, or could I get one at a parts store?

All of the local Honda dealers had them in stock for about five dollars. That's pretty resonable really.
My question still is why the pedal drops to the floor with the spring broke. Shouldn't the fork still push the bearing up agains the pressure plate just the same? I don't see anything else wrong inside though.
Anyone have thoughts on this? Could it be that my flywheel wasn't turned properly there for the ring is back too far in comparison to the mating surface causing the pressure plate fingers to be almost flat (instead of pointed toward the bearing slightly)?
Toxic, I'm glad I'm not the only person with this problem. What a bummer to put the trans together just to have it break!
vsual, Thanks for the good info!
when i did my zc swap, i pulled out the old motor/tranny, and found a broken return spring as well. But my car was still functioning relatively well, despite that broken spring....
im with you, I'd think that the pressure plate provides enough force to put the bearing back, without the aid of the return spring... sorry i can't be of much help guys, interesting topic tho.

I got that spring from acura... $3.10
The whole point of that spring it to keep the throw out bearing straight so it goesn't get cocked sideways and stuck on the input shaft... Not to pull it back from the Pressure Plate.
It's the spring with two arms that pull the throw out bearing back into place, right? Yep, thought so. Mine broke one finger off when I was trying to putt it off to grease up the TOB... I've found it's easiest to install/remove by removing the clutch actuator arm.. It'll come right off with it, trust me, and it's only the one bolt there in the middle of the tranny, anyway.
It's a good idea to grease that rod that the spring goeas around, when changing the clutch anyway, so WHY NOT
IM me if you need any help with the procedure.
