Default transmission problem?? NEED HELP

yo wassup guys. this isnt for me but its for my homie. he has a 97' accord and i think its the lx but i dont think it matters for what he needs help on and its automatic . anyways i guess starting last night as he was driving his car would be at 6000rpms at 20mph and he said its like the car wont grab gears or switch gears for that matter. so i told him put it in first and go up gears like stick. n so he did n it was working fine but when he got to D3 it would accelerate a little and than the rpms would go higher but the car wouldnt move as if it were put into neutral.

im guessing its the transmission and what he did to it. cuz he told me that a few days ago as he was parking his car, the car wasnt fully stopped when he put the car into park. he said he heard a noise but he thought nothing of it because for the next few days till last night the car was driving normally.

so he and i would like to know ...
A)is it the transmission
B)if it is the tranny, is it done with
C)could he fix it if its not done with...and ....
D)what could have happened.

if you guys could get back to me asap that would be great because thats my friends DD (daily driver) and he wants to get it fixed/replaced asap

n yes i know my friends retarded for putting it into park with out the car fully stopped lol i even told him he was retarded to his face

Putting the car in park with it moving would screw up 1st gear or shear off the park pin. Park has nothing to do with 3rd gear (although it probably didn't help anything).
The first thing you need to do is check yo homies trans fluid to be sure it's red and doesn't stink. If it's black or smells burned you need to have it flushed with Honda ATF-Z1

I have a 98 with the same problem, and the service engine light comes on.
I haven't read the codes yet, but one thing I was told is it could be a solenoid problem.
I will post with more info as I obtain it.

Is yo Homie's car flashin' a "Check Engizzle" lizzle?

yo h0m1e. a 97 and a 98 are two different cars. You should have made a new thread or SEARCHED instead of bumping an old one.
welcome to HT though

more than likely scratching the park pin wouldnt cause the problems your having.... you should check your fluid it should be a dark red color if it is black and or smells then it is burned and needs to be taken to a shop the be vacced and refilled you cant service it yourself because the torque converter cant be drained without a vaccum unless you completely remove it. also if the fluid is foaming white then water has gotten into it probably from the radiator where the coolant line runs. in this case you also need to have a trans shop service it unless you completely remove the transmission and torque converter at home yourself. also if it is water then you need to check your radiator and get the seals replaced BEFORE you service the tranny. otherwise you could end up in the same position your in...good luck

Is the D4 light blinking, or staying on even when in Park? Sounds like a tcu (trans control unit) problem to me. The D4 light should come on (for about 2 seconds) then go out when you turn the ignition on.
