I purchased this tranny and Quaife LSD from a friend of mine a few months back. He mentioned there was a problem with the LSD and Quaife supposedly inspected it and everything turned out ok.

I'm installing a quaife into a H23a tranny and when spun you can see it wobble a bit by observing the final driven gear. I went ahead and put a stock diff in it, spun it, and it was fine. I observed that there was a lot of play on the bearings, so I assumed the bearings were toast... I installed new ones and I have the same issue.

I even tore apart one of my back-up H23a1 trannys which also has a Quaife LSD and put it into the casing with the LSD issues with the gear facing up and it spins perfectly. I put the other LSD into my casing which is perfectly fine and the LSD wobbles while spun. I looked into the area where the axle is inserted and I can also see a slight wobble while it is being spun.

I don't really feel like waiting until monday to get Quaife on the phone, so I figured I would ask you guys if you have ever ran across the problem and what exactly is causing this.

does you h23 trans use a cartrige bearing ? or is it a tappered needle bearing ?

 

have you bought new shims to shim it to specs? all the diffs we have ever installed had to be reshimed because not every diff is perfect thats the reason they make like 20 different size shims

 

It's not shim related because I am simply spinning the LSD inside the inner casing.

 

Put it on A set of V blocks and check it with A dial indicator..
