Welding up a turn down tip, suggestions??
First off I'm going to say that I have very little welding experience and have NO tig welding experience. So that being said I'll be taking this project to a local welder that does really good work.
I want to make a turn down tip like this with the "pizza cuts" is there a technical term for this? Also I'll be buying 16 ga. t304 ss tubing from kteller.com for the construction of the tip, will this gauge be sufficent? Also can I just take this picture to the welder and have him do it or should I mock something up from him to go by like cardboard tubing or pvc or could I just cut the piping myself and tell him t weld them together?? How does he know if the muffler is straight with the turn down of the tip and not crooked?
Also is this a special type of weld, I know its tig welded but its really smooth and low profile and I want it to be exactly like this, or will the welder know how to do it? Also the shop rate is $50 and hour, about how long will it take?? Sorry for all the questions but I wanna do this right the first time

I want to make a turn down tip like this with the "pizza cuts" is there a technical term for this? - Pie cuts.. Or JDM bling cuts hahah.
Also I'll be buying 16 ga. t304 ss tubing from kteller.com for the construction of the tip, will this gauge be sufficent? Yes that will be fine
Also can I just take this picture to the welder and have him do it or should I mock something up from him to go by like cardboard tubing or pvc or could I just cut the piping myself and tell him t weld them together?? Do you have a chop saw? Band saw? Or anything.. Would be best to cut the pieces yourself from the metal, then put it together and use a refrence mark with a sharpie.
How does he know if the muffler is straight with the turn down of the tip and not crooked? Again here, use refrence marks.
Also is this a special type of weld, I know its tig welded but its really smooth and low profile and I want it to be exactly like this, or will the welder know how to do it? The welder will know, its just a standard tig weld, you could tell him not to clean it afterwards if you want to keep the colours.
Also the shop rate is $50 and hour, about how long will it take?? Depends.. around an hour i would believe.

The technical internet term for those bends are "whitey bends". He's a guy on HMT who does those like theyre going out of style.
Is this in response to the guys with coriscas and accords running with 'turn-up' mufflers? Why'd you want to decrese that mAd downforce your exhaust gives you?

why not just buy a 90 degree bent tube and jsut cut that in half? Would be easier and cheaper. The whole point of a turn down is to look stealthy and visably welded up stainless pie cuts are not stealthy

my intention of this set-ups not to be "stealthy" but to be able to tuck the muffler as far under my bumper cover and not burn it. The muffler is polished and the rest of my car is anything but stealth so I want the pretty pie cuts!
