More correctly stated...
OBD-1 has 1 O2 sensor...
OBD-2 has 2 O2 sensors...
so, depending on the year and setup of your engine, it could have one or two. The secondary O2 will not effect mileage if it is bad... The CEL however that is produced by its failure/absence will cause the ECU to run in a mode that will effect mileage. Make sense?

What year is the car, are you running obd1 or 2. If one you only need 1 o2. If your running obd2 u need 2. I know my b16 has one on the b pipe of the header and another one on the cat.

correct except for one thing... it's the ECU that matters.
if your ECU is OBD2 (~96+) then it needs two O2s, if it's OBD1 (pre 96) then it needs one.

Which is why you will see in my reply I used the term "so, depending on the year and setup of your engine" ...
