Quick Question about O2 sensor and if location has effect
Car: Integra 97 Gsr OBD2
the car came with a cat converter with
one o2 bung on the outlet of the cat. the primary o2 sensor is here because
the header did not have an o2 bung.
the secondary o2, is not installed but just put back into the hole where it comes out of.
I have no CEL, Motor is stock, i'm sure that the cat that came w/ it is not for GSR obd2 because after research the obd2 gsr has 2 bungs, inlet and outlet of cat
My question is that, does having the primary o2 sensor after the cat (outlet side) have any negative effects? Opposed to having the primary o2 before the cat
i have not found out the gas mileage yet but, just wondering if anyone can shed some light.

That is a good question, I would think that by what the o2 sensor reads you would see very minimal gains by putting it on the inlet side.
thanks for the input guys.
its weird that I dont get a CEL for my secondary o2, its just wrapped in foil and tape. i guess the car used to be running a test pipe.
so that was the "diy" simulator.
i'm hoping that it doesn't kill power or ruin anything by having it after the cat.
i wonder if the cat changes the a/f mixture at all.
at the moment i have no CEL so i guess i can be happy about that.
if anyone has any more opinions plz chime in

O2 sensor doesn't measure mixture, it measure oxygen. In the proper location, the primary O2 sensor wants to see some excess oxygen, which is needed for the cat to use. The ECU will adjust mixture until the primary O2 sensor sees the proper amount of oxygen.
Putting the primary sensor after the cat, it's measuring oxygen after the cat uses up what it wants. The ECU doesn't 'know' that it's after the cat, so it adjusts fuel until it's happy with the sensor reading. That should result in your engine running lean. (Maybe not a good thing...)

I remember when I had my car tuned, the tuner puts a sensor in the muffler.
so would this mean that having the o2 after the cat is still safe? </TD></TR></TABLE>Depends on how he used that sensor. Fair chance it's OK but can't guarantee from here.
