Default Syncro Replacement

my gsr tranny has a 3rd gear grind and i just wanted to know if i have to replace just the 3rd gear syncro or do i have to replace the gear too. i would like to get the gearspeed carbon coated ones but dont know if i need to get the gearset also. can the gear even get damaged or just the syncro.

also if i end up not doing this for a little while will it hurt anything else in the tranny besides the syncro and maybe the gear.

just the syncro but usually once you tear into you replace more than just that

you should check out gearspeed.com for their syncros. they are carbon coated and pretty cheap.

About $200 bucks will do all the syncros I think.

check to see if the engadgement teeth on your 3rd gear are rounded off. if they are which more than likly they are replace the gear to. if you dont have time to tear down the tranny then order parts i would just order the gear anyways . most time the gear teeth are as bad as the syncro.

And if the engagement teeth are worn, there is a good chance the slider is, too.

most importantly when you replace your 3-4 syncros, be sure you replace the 3-4 syncro HUB and collar if it looks fucked up.

so if i were to get the 3-4 gear sleeve set from gear speed and the carbon coated syncro that would basically replace everything for those two gears.

I did mine recently. Had third gear grind, change 1-5sync from gearspeed 275. It fixed third but 2nd is still jack from bad sleave and hub do to a broken clutch disk spring that broke(all down shift grind).
