Well i'm wanting to eliminate my balance shaft belt, however, my friend told me the balance shaft belt runs the oil pump.

I was kinda skeptical because i don't believe something as important as a oil pump would be driven by a belt. I looked in the helms but couldn't really find what drives it. I'm kinda guessing the crankshaft.

Anybody know for sure?

 

The belt runs it. Your timing belt is driven by the crank shaft, and that belt goes to your camshaft, water pump, oil pump.... so... you need it no matter what!

 

the oil pump gear is driven directly from the crankshaft, so you can remove the balance shaft belt without any problems

 

ahh ok thats what i thought. i didn't think the oil pump would be driven off such a measly belt.
