2000 Honda accord SOHC vtec issue
Hello all, my bro seems to be having a problem with his automatic 2000 honda accord. It is a SOHC vtec engine. The car seems to shift hard when going from first to second gear. I've done b16a engine swpas in my crx so he asked me to look at it. He never drives the car hard, so i got the car up to about 6K RPMs and when the car shifted it shook like 3 times before it caught. My bro treats the car like a queen and never drives it hards. Whats wrong with his POS auto tranny? Thanks
Transmission Flush or change fluid then go from their – if tranny is Bad - God Bless you.!
take her in to a good tansmission shop - check, could be something simple like solenoid
or new transmission

its an accord EX I4 F23A1. And it ONLY happens in first gear. The car has about 106,000 and hes had it about 2 years and has never had it flushed he says.
hard shifting between 1-2 is usually a sign that the trans is toast on these cars......start saving up now.........

the V6 and to some extent I4 transmissions have problems in the following areas
Differential bearings
2nd gear clutch pack
The V6 units have a might higher failure rate due to higher power being pushed through it
The I4 models use the same basic design and usually suffer failure at higher milages for the same reasons as the V6 cars

That sucks. Since the flushes didn't help I would reccomend having it replaced with a remanufactured transmission or have it rebuilt by a GOOD transmission shop. (notice i never said a junkyard tranny)

Mine did the same damn thing and the same damn thing has happened to others. It's a faulty auto transmission, the fluid isnt reaching the gears in 2nd gear and it's wearing out. Take it to honda, they SHOULD be able to help you out.

You may want to call Honda of America and hash it out with them and then get a go ahead from them and have them contact the dealer and sort it out.
I'd say try to sneak it in to the honda dealer; there is a reason Honda extended that trans warranty to 100k miles. They might do a 'split' for you; you pay labor and they pay for trans. You aren't far past the warranty, and the service manager has the option to extend 'service goodwill'
Be sure to show all of your Teeth with Very Happy Honda smile – so manager can’t make you unhappy – if he’s trying to reject you – then ask do you know the Honda Head Office phone number or customer care Supervisor’s phone number - then he’ll say wait wait and will fix your tranny

I checked consumer reports on all Accords awhile back, and it seems that from 1999-2001 They had "tempermental" Transmissions.
Honda gave a lot of people some trouble to, b/c they had so many to repair. i.e.
not accepting warranty coverage.
So this problem is not too common.
I'd say swap in a different gen. tranny (if it's completely toast.) It might be cheaper and better in the long run, otherwise, try to keep what you got and save your bro some dough.
Good luck
