Default DIY Kevlar Plug Cover - version 2

As some of you may remember, I tried my hand at a kevlar plug cover some time ago.

To make a long story short, it didn't like heat all that much, and eventually distorted so much that it looked like crap.

So, recently, I tried my hand at it once more. This time, instead of making an all-new pice, I used a factory plastic plug cover as a base, and did an over-lay.

The results have been holding up perfectly over the past 5 weeks. No heat deformation, no discoloration, no warping.

Another benefit of doing it as an overlay seems to be that it has those crisp, defined lines of the factory cover. My first try was kind of bulge-y.

So, without further ado, here's the pic. I'll take some more today, maybe.

Any questions/comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
- Derek

P.S. Alot of you guys PM'd me about making some carbon/kevlar parts. I just recently got some more material, and I just do this as a hobby, so if you're still interested in pieces, let me know again.

There's the old one. Very wavey and deformed.

Difference is minimal, but looks nice.

Clean bay as usual, D-Rob.

Thanks for the compliments.

The old one lacked a solid structure. I also used Elmer's Fiberglass Resin on the old one, which is why the color is a little darker than the new one. Elmer's resin has a brown-ish tint to it, while the newer, better stuff I've got is completely clear.

So far, like 12 of you guys have PM'd me showing an interest in these.

Just to let you all know, this requires a core. Like I mentioned in the first post, this is simply an overlay on your factory cover. That way, it has some nice structure to it. I do not have a vaccuum pump, so all I can do efficiently is overlays.

Thanks guys,
- Derek

How much did it cost to do? Also where did you get the supplies?

I get my supplies through Select Products.

As far as a price, I figure I can whip up one of these for around $50 +shipping with your core plug cover.

That covers the high-high cost of kevlar (or carbon), my costs of epoxy, clearcoat, and of course, my labor. I had about 3 hours into this one.
