Default How many of you broke-in your setups on the dyno?

Any horror stories?

reason I ask is because I dont have much of a choice and didnt have much luck last time around. last time I did this on my all motor setup, I dont think the rings seated properly, I ended up burning a ton of oil, and the motor spun a bearing and shot a rod out the block at just over 20K miles.

with my new boosted setup, Im going to be running NepTune. currently have a P28 with a Crome basemap configured for my setup, so Im hoping it will atleast allow me to start the car and idle it for awhile, and ensure there are no leaks or mechanical issues before trekking to the dyno. I just dont have any way to make changes to the Crome map in case the car DOESNT start with that basemap. this is going to be a completely fresh build.

I have an AEM EMS, so it was first run and tuned on the dyno. Did some light driving for about 100 miles and then went back for some hard pulls and fine tuning. There were some good post on breaking a car in last year. Check out the archived topics.

just make sure it gets some run time before it goes to the dyno. check for leaks and stupid **** that can give you problems and cost $$$ while your working on your **** strapped to the rollers. tuners love that haha

i built my motor in my garage....took it around the block once, loaded it up on the trailer and tuned it on the dyno with about 5 miles on the motor.

in my opinion, if somehting was going to go wrong, it would have gone wrong in those first 10 seconds when you started your motor.

<---broke his motor in on the dyno!

let's put it this way....not a good idea to break in a motor on a basemap.

really? i was thinking about breaking in my engine on a uberdata basemap? This is not a good idea? Should I just break it in using stock ecu/injectors?

only thing Im worried about is if my basemap will be able to start my car or not. if it starts, great, if its driveable, wonderful. if not, hopefully I can atleast let it idle. I want to atleast be able to start the car and check for leaks, etc, and *hopefully* allow it to get up to operating temp. that way I can set base timing, check timing belt tension, etc etc. Id hate to bring it to the tuner and have him start it, and find all these problems before even getting on the dyno.

I would rather break it in on a street tune then a dyno tune. Simulate the exact loading conditions, wideband in the car, tuner in the passenger seat, etc. Cheaper then dyno time as well. If this option is available, this is the way I do it.

I wasn't thinking about breaking it in turboed...I just meant breaking it in all motor with stock injectors and everything

If you don't have the option to start tuning right after startup then stock ecu and injectors are the next best thing
