Default Slight over heat 95 V6

I just recently purchased a 95 V6 EXR. Two days after a bought it Iwas driving along and the engine overheted (to the red line) so I cranked the heat and took it back to the dealer. The head was cracked so they replace the engine with another accord V6 (Japan import).

Now the gauge reads normal most of the time (sits at about a quarter). But on warm days when I'm doing long periods of city driving the temp will go up to about half maybe a little more when i stop at a light. Then when i start driving again it drops. Now that doesn't seem right to me but the tech who put in the engine said thats okay.

Now I'm pretty much a noobe but I've been doing some research and this is what i know:

The coolant level is full
The coolant isn't leaking that I can see
I don't think I'm losing any pressure at the rad cap
When the gauge says the engine is hot (about half) the rad hose is hot and firm
I've inspected the fan blades - okay
the fan motor works I've seen the fan turn it seems to push alot of air
As far as I know from what the tech said the water pump is working

Now I havn't tried anything yet but I'm thinking either a thermostat problem, or the fan is working, but it's not kicking in when it should so maybe the Rad fan timer. I know I have noticed a blue wire and plug haning down under my glove box around where the timer should be. I have yet to check if that plug is for the timer.

I need help, what should I do? Any other thoughts on what the problem could be, or how to fix it?

ok dude, first up in japan, they never had V6's in their accords
so I really hope the japan import place just " got it " from a wrecked V6 and did not give u and install a legend engine

please post up pictures of you engine bay

or

tell me what engine does yours look like which engine
( 87-89 2.7L legend engine bay and V6 95-97 2.7L accord engine bay posted up )

reason why I ask is because in the starlet in japan AKA the acura legend.
it was equipped with the 2.7L V6 engine. if that is all in order and they did give you the right engine ( I hope the second pic ) then fine.

As for the heating issue.
I've had mine since 2000.
I've never had during normal operating temperatures pass the mid point on the dash only once
when I had to change my thermostat
the thermostat is located on the passenger side firewall, you can reach it if you remove the strut bar and move the hoses over.
when mine went, I manually kept it open until I changed it 2 days later

( could be gone as well or malfunctioning because suspecting it's not the right engine )

I'd love to help you more but I can't bro.
respond to the pics and tell us what's up

I guess maybe they lied about where the engine came from but it does look like the accord engine from the second pic. It looks just like the original engine. Only with out the crack I hope!

Now I though the thermostat was at the end of the upper rad hose

I'd love to take it back but there being jerks about the whole thing and keep saying that the problem is normal. i just want to figure out the problem so i can either go to them and argue the point with the right info or just fix it myself.

I don't think HOC will help me I bought the car from a thitd party dealer. And since they replaced the engine after i bought it (no charge to me) they're out thier profit. i'm thinking i'm pretty much on my own unless i take it to a mechanic and just pay to get it sorted. i would like to do it myself though.

oh i thought you took it to a honda service facility.......

take it to a honda dealer and have them diag it and repair if possible and then get the other dealer to reiumburse....in all my YEARS of driving I have ever seen a temp guage move up and down like that unless there was something wrong with the cooling system........

Thanks taking it into the dealer is good advice and I'll certainly look into that but for right now if anyone has an Idea of what the problem could be or if anyone has had the same problem I'd love to hear about it.

As for the fan it does kick in I just don't think it's kicking on on time. I've also noticed my coolong fan modual is disconnected could that be it? and what exactly does the cooling fan modual do? I think thats what its called it's the one inside the car behind the glove box.

I agree. I have a 1997 honda accord overhere in Germany. Mine always sits a quarter way on the guage. It doesn't matter what condition of driving i am in, it sits like that all the time. so the dealer is lying to him on that issue. even the not so well built vehicle temp guage don't do that unless there is a cooling problem.
