Default cv-joint / axle questions

Howdy. Lots of questions about CV joints. I just pulled both of mine out b/c they accidentally dropped to the ground while the car was on jackstands. I just want to make sure they're ok.

1. Should there be considerable more play in the inboard joint than the outboard (when it is off the car)? It doesn't seem like the inboard is "locked" into anything... it's just free floating.

2. What should I check to make sure it's ok?

3. Does it *really* matter whether I reinstall the inboard joint housing in the same position as how I removed it? If not, how do I figure out where it goes (already made the mistake)?

4. Is it ok if the Dynamic Damper is roughed up? Mine isn't terrible, but it's definitely taken a beating.

5. The manual says drain the tranny oil first... I didn't, and no tranny fluid came out when I pulled the axles. Does this mean my transmission has no fluid in it? I can't get the upper bolt off, so I don't know.

5. Can I safely replace the boot bands with zip ties?

6. Do I really need to replace the set rings/circlips when reinstalling the axle?

7. How much grease do I put in there?

Phew... don't feel obligated to answer all at once

Thanks!
Justin

Its hard to damage the axle from just dropping it, it should more than likely be ok from my opinion. as far as the play i wouldnt worry about it because as long as its not making noise and its doin its job properly dont mess wit it. no u dont have to put the axles inboard side in the same way as u took it out u can put it in any way and u dont have to replace the circlips unless they are damaged in any way. usually you just drain the tranny oil when you're takin the tranny down cuz it'll spill out the sides. if none comes out when u take the axles out ur ok but u should really get the fill plug out, drain the tranny oil, and replace it it u've never done it before. Dont ever replace the boot clamps with zip ties...it doesnt work...they slip off and the grease comes out. put enough grease in to pack the joint and make sure its gettin the proper lubrication. dont put so much that it comes out the boot when you're tryin to clamp it.
