Default Tranny popping out of 2nd gear

I have a 95 civic ex with a dx tranny and recently it has been popping out of 2nd gear. This problem usually ocurrs when accelerating at low RPM' S and it happens atleast once or twice every time i drive. It also never happens when I am at high RPM'S.The tranny has no grinds or anything and the clutch is only 1 year old and I don't really beat on it much so I dont know why the 2nd gear synchro would be shot.

check the shift linkage and check to make sure the transmission mounts are still good.

I've heard of this happening with bad mounts causing the motor to flex more then usual and having the gear pop out

i had this happen to me. it was just occasional at first, and 2 weeks later it was constant. everytime i was in 2nd it would pop out, and the popping sometimes was very harsh (loud noise, big thump).

i replaced the tranny and all has been well, so i don't think it's the mounts. i think mista bone (guru) said that the shift fork was bent or the countershaft bearing was walking out of the case.

first thing to do is change your fluid, make sure you put the right amount in.

Flattened teeth on a synchronizer gear is most likely the culprit. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I would verify that the tranny has the correct amount of fluid. If it's low, then try draining and then filling with new Honda MTF.

countershaft bearing on the clutchside case has walked out.

If I had .01 for everytime someone blamed the synchros, I'd own Bill Gates.

check the shift linkage.

synchro's won't cause this to happen.

why would low fluid cause this to happen?

low tranny fluid could cause that, but usually it will happen in 5th gear. Make sure you have the correct amount in before you do anything else.

It may even need reshimmed. If 2nd gear syncro is alligning properly, it will pop out especially at a low RPM.

how do you reshim a shaft (countershaft) that doesn't accept shims?

Mainshaft and diff you can shim, countershaft you cannot.

Here's the reason I say shims are the problem. A friend of mine reassembled an H22 transmission for me. We needed to order diff bearings for my LSD so we just put the transmission back together for the time being. For some odd reason we couldn't get the case on by like 1/2", so he removed the shim. We were lucky when we realized the transmission shifted perfect. Only problem is that 3rd would pop out if left in for a while, or at a low RPM, or when making a sharp turn at a low RPM. I know you didn't purposely remove your shim, but something as obvious as the shift linkage is almost never the issue. 90% of the time it is internal. Now Mista Bone is right, there is only a shim on the mainshaft, but is it possible that a syncronizer has flattened teeth? I don't know, I'm just trying to help.

Not a H22 tranny..........and if your friend put in a LSD without checking diff OAL before slapping it together, SHOOT HIM!

Whadda ya mean? Is there an obvious reason as to why the case wouldn't go back on with the shim?

you changed nothing waiting on the diff bearings and it wouldn't go back together, so lets remove this shim, now it doesn't shift right or pops out of gear.

Well, we saved the shim, and we're tearing it down this weekend. I'm thinking he put in a synchro upside down. It just that all the forks shift fine, and all the gears are aligned. We kept the shim, so we'll see what the problem is.
